On April 15th-16th, 2011 in Medias was held, under the patronage of the Ministry of Economy, Commerce and Business Environment, the international Symposium Protection of the critical power infrastructure - Energy-communications inter-dependencies and dependencies. The Symposium was organised by the National Power Grid Company TRANSELECTRICA SA, TGN TRANSGAZ SA and Co. TELETRANS SA, being attended by more than 100 Romanian and foreign experts working in the critical infrastructure protection field. Governmental representatives, those of competent public authorities in the sense of GEO 98/2010, of prestigious institutions and companies from the country and abroad, as well as of the private and academic environments have had the opportunity to debate specific topics for the national and European critical infrastructure, sectorial, inter-sectorial dependencies and risk management. The main topics targeted the current aspects of critical infrastructure protection in the power sector, the information security management in inter-dependence with its protection, as well as the inter-sectorial dependencies and inter-dependencies of the power sector with communications. Topical event of highest novelty for the Romanian power sector, the Symposium provided a proper dialogue platform where company policies have been reviewed as well as the strategies of other national economic operators in the power domain, the manner of liaising with competent state authorities and international cooperation in the critical infrastructure protection field.
Transelectrica is responsible for electricity transmission, system and market operation, safe operation of the Romanian Power System (RPS). Such responsibility made us understand the critical infrastructure protection and initiate pragmatic activities reforming and improving our internal structure. We have held meetings on this item uninterruptedly since 2005; the Government, owners and operators of critical infrastructures involved in the management of critical infrastructure protection should cooperate to identify the inter-dependencies specific to this system, to consider resulting risks and apply proper risk mitigation strategies according to the national interest; it is in this sense that we have organised today's reunion, stated Mr. Stelian Alexandru Gal, Director General of Transelectrica.
