CRAIOVA Branch
Business:
Managing the electricity transmission grid in districts Dolj, Gorj and Mehedinti, consisting of:
- three 400 kV electric substations discharging the output of HPP Portile de Fier (Iron Gates) I and II, also providing interconnection to other 220 kV and 400 kV substations of the Romanian Power System and electricity discharge from TPP Rovinari and TPP Turceni;
- seven 220 kV electric substations, of which Isalnita discharges the electricity output of TPP Isalnita;
- 1528 km of 220 kV and 400 kV overhead electric lines; the 400 kV line to Djerdap (Yugoslavia) is making the interconnection to the Serbian power system;
The Transmission Branch Craiova provides the public service of electricity transmission while observing the regulations of electric power quality maintained at the parameters of the Grid Code, avoiding the additional supply drops and preventing the fluctuating voltage and frequency, voltage gaps and consumer disturbing regimes by modernising the metering, surveillance, monitoring and control systems.
The characteristic performance parameters and the development trend of substation equipment are also reviewed using on- and off-line monitoring techniques:
- on-line monitoring of big transformer units;
- diagnosing the condition of the transformer insulation, high power auto-transformers and shunt reactors by means of chromatography to oil-dissolved gases;
- monitoring the water and hydrogen contents of high power auto-transformers within the substations of TB Craiova;
In accordance with the National Strategy for Romania's Power Development, the targets of the TB Craiova have been harmonised to those of the Company for the rehabilitation of the power system and are as follows:
1. Retrofitting the electric substations and lines
2. Setting up the competitive power market (applying the metering, telecommunications and the EMS/SCADA systems)
The expansion trends of micro-electronics, telecommunications and computer systems have led to opportunities as well in the power sector with respect to tele-control and tele-management of technological equipment. Thus there is a new need to generate and develop a new field- process IT as an integrant part of the existing electricity domain.
TB Craiova aims at interconnecting the local LANs to the new sub-systems implemented or under implementation from other branches with a view to set up a complex integrated structure providing a flexible efficient supervision of electricity transmission.
3. Limiting the environmental impact to the level admitted at European level.
