Its mission is to manage the electric grid in three counties, namely: Arges, Olt and Valcea, in terms of power transmission within the boundary of these counties, of power output from the hydro-power plants on the rivers Olt and Arges, and of power supply to some important consumers such as: SC ALRO SA -Slatina, SC ARPECHIM SA - Pitesti, SC OLTCHIM SA - Ramnicu Valcea. 
ST Pitesti manages over 1200 km of overhead lines (OHLs) with single and double circuit with voltages of 400 kV, 220 kV and nine transforming substations, as follows: 400/220/110/20 kV Bradu, 220/110/20 kV Pitesti South and Aref, 220/110 kV Raureni and Stuparei, 400/220 kV Slatina, 400/110/20 kV Draganesti Olt, 220/110/20 kV Gradiste.
Located in-between a region with shortage of power and one with extra power, the facilities of ST Pitesti ensure :
- power transmission within the boundary of the three counties Arges, Olt and Valcea;
- power output from the hydro-power plants on the rivers Olt and Arges, of which the most important is the HPP of Vidraru;
- power supply of some important consumers, such as: SC ALRO SA -Slatina, SC ARPECHIM SA - Pitesti, SC OLTCHIM SA - Ramnicu Valcea.
Development strategy guidelines 
- modernizing the 220/110 kV substation Pitesti south
- rehabilitation of the 220 kV substation Slatina
On the location of the existing 220 kV substation Slatina, the new 400/220 kV substation will be constructed and operated. This substation layout will include 1 ½ circuit breaker and 2 busbars at both voltage levels. The equipment is highly performant, of compact type or with multiple functions , increasing the substation reliability and diminishing the substation surface.
